Costumes RSS FeedsRe: Hey Moderator - Yessssss! Finally all the crap is gone! Thank you Lobo and glad to hear that you are still around....Feed Source: CraftyVixens.tribe.net Hello Lobocita - I've been absent from Crafty Vixens myself for quite awhile. It's great to see you back and that the group is still active. I will try and stop in more now. I always enjoy all the great threads and seeing all the creative things that people have made here.... Re: Duct tape dress form, this is awesome! - Well, we made one of my husband's body. It took three roles of duct tape and about 3hrs to make. And, additional 1.5 hrs to stuff and close it off. So, far it is holding together well. We did three layers of duct tape, horizontal, veritical, then horizontal again. By the third layer, you could tell it could stand up by itself. He also used about half roll of duct tape on the inside where the seammeet.
How many layers did you use?... Re: Duct tape dress form, this is awesome! - I tried this, and mine did not turn out so nice. I think maybe I didn't do enough layers of tape.. I don't know. I may try again... Huskylock 340D is possessed! Help! - Women with hearts & smarts,
Don't know what I may have touched, but my serger, that I've had NO problems with prior to this, suddenly started to "push" the fabric back in my direction WTF?!? Just like a standard machine, when you hit reverse. Except, I don't think mine has "reverse". If it has, I've never used it, & can't find a "back button" on the schematics in my manual. To top it off, I can't figure out where my kid saved the pic I took of my open husky, but it is posted on Reconstructed Clothing, if you'd care to take a look. Had an error occur (geez! this is like a snowball rolling downhill ) when posting there, but if you hit the pic title, or dbl. click on the box, the pic opens. Whew!
And yes, I've googled, craftstered, etc., etc.. That's why I've come to you.
Thanks,
Sue... Duct tape dress form, this is awesome! - Ok, found this youtube vid on how to make your own dress form out of duct tape. This is great, its cheap, and you have a double of your own body form for sewing. Awesome.

Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - I'm not sewing right now, but I did get my hands on a woodburner and some wood. Gonna see if I can remember how to use it. I need some new tables and a dining set. Thought the burning would be unique and custome after I build the pieces.... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - That's pretty. I love the idea of wire wrapping. I just never got into it.... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - Here is one of my latest jewelry pieces:

Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - I still have piles of clothing that I need to repair though. I make a little money by doing small repairs and hemming for others but I never get around to fixing my own clothes.... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - I take The Yoda Approach to crafts, "There is no try, just do." I see something I really, really want and I figure out how to make it. yeah, there are a lot of "oops!" but either I go back & fix it or its not such a big deal and it stays.
You'd be amazed what you can accomplish with this philosophy!... Re: First craft you ever remember making? - yarn dolls
you wrap a paperback book w/ yarn, slide it off, cut the bottom, tie off the head & arms, and legs if you want a boy doll... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - Good to hear of someone else who's able to keep up with sewing while couch-surfing. I've been semi-in-transition for the past 2 years- I moved and got sick fairly quickly after that, before i got fully settled in- and one of the biggest things I've missed has been sewing. I finally got a chance to catch up to it recently.... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - I've had a lot of luck with sewing in the last few years. I got a very nice Janome Memory Craft sewing machine and Janome Serger from a friend on trade. She bought them with the hope that she'd learn to use them and they basically at on her shelf for almost a year before she decided to trade them to me.
I've also been lucky at finding wicked fabric at very good prices. I hunt up deals on seasonal fabric at local stores and I'm always checking thrift stores. I got a bunch of sheer Georgette in a variety of colors for about a dollar a yard. So I've been making tiered skirts and poet blouses in a variety of color combinations as well as different cuts and lengths.
Recently I got into making Chainmaille. My father brought me a huge box of jewelry findings he got for a couple bucks at a yard sale a few years ago. There were a few hundred tiny brass and copper jump rings that I didn't really know what to do with until recently.
I'm also homeless and staying off and on with... Re: First craft you ever remember making? - a cat toy made from yarn... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - wow. What neat ideas these are! I wish I could sew! I couldn't sew if my life depended on it.
I'd really love to see Kylie's costume.
I'm working on a photo mosaic. I got the idea to take all the tiny pics from the proof sheets and put them into one big pic.... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - Ooooh! I can't wait to see that pony!... Re: First craft you ever remember making? - I have patience, but not for cross-stitch! Probably have some unfinished ones around the same age not finished. Good stuff!!... Re: First craft you ever remember making? - Oh yeah black velvet painting with sparkle paint counts!!! Anything with sparkles gets counted imho. LOL... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - wow. I feel your pain!... Re: what are you making and with what equipment? - I'm working on The Quilt From Hell .. I saw it in a catalog and decided to make it . no fabric yardeges, no assembly instructions, no patter pieces but you can see it here..
