Moving and Relocating RSS FeedsHi, I'm new :) - Hi my name is Nichol and I am new to aardvarktravel! - I am 21 years old - I live in Edmonton, Alberta - Canada - I am an EMR (which is Step 1 to becoming a Paramedic) and and working at a restaurant called Moxies - The only place I have traveled to (other than a few provinces in Canada) is Las Vegas, Nevada - My boyfriend and I have plans to leave the first week of January 2010 and travel to London, England and get a "live-in" job and work for about a year and then after that we plan on traveling all over Europe from 8 - 12 months - With our travels, we are on a budget on how much we can spend and while we are traveling around we plan on mostly backpacking - During summer I like Kayaking and Hiking in the mountains and during winter I like to Ski By joining this website I am really looking forward to gettting to know new people and getting traveling tips! :D....Feed Source: www.aardvarktravel.net Mexico, a 3rd world or mixture of 1st world and 3rd world? - General perception of Mexico in US is that Mexico is a 3rd world country. I'm pretty sure that I'm right about this. If anyone has any objection, please voice your opinion.
But I watched several Mexican movies featuring Gael Garca Bernal (I love watching movies featuring him), and Mexico that I see in these movies is different. In particular, Mexico that I see in movies like "Y tu mam tambin" and "Amores perros" is very urban. It's modern. I'd even say that it's much more fashionable than Hollywood while it shows existence of culture and intelligence. So, here's the question. Those of you who spent a certain amount of time in Mexico, how do you describe Mexico? Is Mexico, a 3rd world country or mixture of 1st world and 3rd world country?.... Cant make my mind up!! - Decisions decisions ..
Basically will be in the area around LA working. I then have best part of a week off before working again in Miami.
I was originally thinking of taking the greyhound overland to Miami stopping off here and there in random places. then I had an idea of getting to Miami then flying over to Havana for a few days.
Now, after looking at the atlas I have had the idea of flying down to Costa Rica for a few days and then on to Miami from there. Cheapest flights I came up with were about 300$ to San Jose from LA and about 200$ to Miami. Reasonable prices I thought.
I would really love to visit Costa Rica even though it will only be for 4 or 5 days.
Is 4/5 days enough? Obviously I wont be able to see as much as I would like, but I do think it will be worth it.... Direct Flights form USA to RTB Roatan - Trying to find flights from USA city to RTB direct during which days of week????.... Driving through CA and selling my 4Runner in Panama City... - Hi, I'm driving through CA during May and June and am terminally planning on selling my car in Panama City, then flying back to the US. I am posted this for two reasons: i'm trying to figure out what exactly needs to happen for me to sell my car down there and also chekcing to make sure that I have everything that I may need for a drive like this-
It sounds like as I enter panama I have to pay 15% tax on the value of my car (which they decide). I know that I need a clear title for my car, and registration, however I dont know if there is any other forms that I need to or can fill out prior to getting there. Is it possible to simply enter the country and go to a dealer to sell it? Also, are there any suggestions on how to establish someone how will purchase my car before I get down there, just to save time?
To drive through Central America, I have my up-to-date passport, an international drivers license, US auto insurance, registration, title, and personal international health i... Lonely Planet and Johannesburg - As a proud Joburger, I am disgusted with the way Lonely Planet has portrayed my city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Quite honestly, who on earth would want to come here after reading this review (follows down below)?? And Lonely Planet is a respectable travel guide
I concede that Joburg isn't one of the safest cities in the world, but people do actually survive here. And to make it worse - there isn't any mention whatsoever of the other tourist sites in Johannesburg. The Bohemian Melville, The African Museum, The Apartheid Museum, the theatres, the nightlife, Gold Reef City theme park, the casino's, the SHOPPING, Rosebank, Sandton, the cradle of Humankind, Sterkfontein Caves, the Mandela Bridge, the Carlton Centre the list goes on. Instead, Hillbrow is mentioned a slum. Go figure! :oddball:
I don't know if anyone from Lonely Planet reads these forums, but really, their portrayal of Johannesburg is too shocking for words!!! :nailgun:

Darren.... Travel Hangman - Time for a new game on here!
I present to you "Travel Hangman". http://www.paul-johnson.co.uk/forum-images/hang.gif
It's like normal hangman, except it's travel related. It might be a place, the name of a company, something that you do when you travel anything that's got something to do with travel.
OK, first off we need some rules:
1. You are allowed up to 12 wrong guesses a guess could be the suggestion of a letter or the suggestion of the whole thing
2. Nobody is allowed to make a guess until the person that's started the game has responded to any outstanding guesses. For example, if someone guesses 'A', you must first wait for the originator of the game to confirm whether there is or isn't an 'A' in the word. It's also probably helpful if the originator posts a list of wrong guesses to date.... Egyptian tourist kipnapping - Not posting this in an "Oh no lets panic!" sense, but more because it is rather unusual these days AFAIK.
The long and short of it is that 19 people (tourists plus guides) were kidnapped in southern Egypt on Friday, are being held for ransom, and talks for their release are ongoing.
Here's yesterdays initial report from the BBC:
Tourist abduction blow for Mubarak
and today's update:
Egypt abduction talks 'ongoing'
Looks like a kipnap for ransom, rather than anything religiously motivated, but interested about what people's thoughts are both on the kipnapping itself, and on the implications this may have for Egyptian tourism..... 3 meals , 3 countries one day - Hello

I going to do it the cheapest way possiable using non budget airlines and aim to do the whole trip for around 250 if not cheaper!

Paul.... Will Spain react to UK Currency crisis? - With the pound weakening by the day, and the Euro now being worth 25% less than it did this time last year we have to ask how is it going to affect Spanish tourism!
Many British families are moving into 2009 with caution knowing that jobs in all industries carry uncertainty, although on a brighter note we are led to believe that the "Family Holiday" is the last luxury to fall by the wayside where possible in a Recession.
Whilst Spain is included in the "Global Economic decline" I wonder if it will recognise the need to reduce the holiday product price to encourage those who are currently considering non-euro destinations such as Turkey and Egypt, to put Spain back at the top of their holiday list?....
